Should we ban Christmas?

Should we ban Christmas? Over 500 letters and emails from pupils and parents alike convinced the teachers to reinstate the traditional Christmas decorations and celebrations at Lady Lumley’s School in North Yorkshire.

Teachers at the school wanted to encourage students to think about the reasons why the festival is celebrated and also some of the negative sides to religious and cultural celebrations.

We decided to try out our recently developed persuasive language techniques to answer the question and convince others.

You can listen to two of the speeches here.

Are you convinced?

Ghosts, Vampires and Werewolves Apply Here!

Inspired by the ghastly entrance exam question for Oxford University’s All Souls College “Would you rather be a vampire or a zombie?”, the pupils in the British International Section have created a series of diabolical recruitment posters. The students used different persuasive techniques to convince the spectator of the advantages of being a ghost, a vampire, or a werewolf. Which ghoulish career will you choose?

Clydeview comes to Courbevoie!

On Monday 3rd of December, the pupils in the British Section welcomed nine Scottish pupils from Clydeview Academy in Gourock, Scotland who were on a four day trip to the French capital. The Scottish pupils got a taste of life in a French secondary school joining classes in different subjects and eating in the canteen. Before their visit, the pupils had exchanged work to introduce themselves. The Scottish students had sent their Chinese portraits in French and they also sent a photograph to show what their uniform looks like. The French students had written their own versions of the poem “Where I am from” by George Ella Lyon. After a busy day at school, the French and Scottish students went to the Foundation Vuitton together to see the Basquiat exhibition.
